Based in Wabasso, Minnesota, Truegrain Studio creates custom furniture and woodworking for homeowners, businesses and individuals throughout Southwest Minnesota and the surrounding region.
That might mean a dining table built specifically for your home, a custom desk designed around the way you work, or a one-of-a-kind piece you simply cannot find in a store.
At Truegrain, custom does not mean choosing from a short list of predetermined options. It means starting with your idea, your space or even just a problem you are trying to solve, then working through the possibilities together.
You do not need to have every detail figured out before reaching out.
Bring us the idea. Let's figure it out.

A custom piece should feel person from the beginning, not just when it arrives.
Truegrain works directly with each customer to understand how the piece will be used, where it will live and what matters most to the person ordering it. From dimensions and wood selection to design details and finish, you can be as involved in the process as you want to be.
If you already know exactly what you want, we can work from there. If you only have a general idea, Justin can help narrow the options and explain what he recommends and why.
Throughout the project, the goal is simple: no surprises.
You should understand the scope, pricing and expected timeline before work begins. As your project moves through the shop, you will know how it is progressing and be included when decisions need to be made.
The finished piece matters, but so does the experience of getting there.
I started Truegrain Studio because I believe there is value in making fewer things, making them well and making them for a specific purpose.
Each project begins with thoughtful material selection and is built with close attention to construction, proportion, function and finish. If we know something isn't right, we fix it, even if that means spending more time on the project.
Our goal is not simply to make something that looks good when it leaves the shop. We want to create something that fits you, fits your space and is built to be used, appreciated and kept.
The best outcome is simple:
"It's exactly what we wanted."
Even better:
"It's exactly what we wanted, only better."
I'm Justin Morin, the woodworker and craftsman behind Truegrain Studio in Wabasso, Minnesota.
I've always enjoyed building things, working with my hands and figuring out how to turn an idea into something real. Farming has been a big part of my life, and woodworking gives me a different kind of challenge. It combines creativity, problem-solving and the satisfaction of seeing a project through from start to finish.
What keeps custom woodworking interesting for me is that no two projects have to be the same.
One project might begin with a detailed plan. Another might start with an awkward space, a functional need or a simple question: "Can you build this?"
The variety is a big part of why I enjoy the work.
One of my favorite parts of woodwoorking is seeing the transformation happen. Rough lumber is milled, boards are selected, grain patterns are considered, pieces are shaped and assembled, and eventually the finish brings out the character that was hidden in the wood from the beginning.
I also believe the relationship with the customer should matter just as much as the craftsmanship. When you work with Truegrain, you are working directly with the person building your piece. That makes it easier to ask questions, explore options and make decisions together.
I take the work seriously, but I do not think the process needs to feel formal or intimidating. My approach is straightforward, practical and collaborative.
We primarily serve customers throughout Southwest Minnesota and the surrounding region.
Because every project is different, the practical service area can vary. Larger or more involved custom furniture projects may make sense farther from the shop, while other projects are best suited to customers closer to Wabasso.
As a general guide, we may serve customers within roughly a two to three hour drive of Wabasso, depending on the size, scope and value of the project.
If you have an idea, a need or something thyou have not been able to find anywhere else, we'd be glad to talk through it with you and see whether Truegrain is a good fit.
Have a project in mind? Tell us what you're thinking, and let's figure it out.
